The American Humane Association says it monitored the use of animals during the production of "Avatar" and gave the film an outstanding rating.

James Cameron's latest blockbuster was nominated for a best picture Oscar this week.

"American Humane applauds 'Avatar' director James Cameron and the production for earning our highest rating by ensuring the safety of the animals used in the filming," Karen Rosa, vice president of American Humane's film and television unit, said in a statement.
